Modules
Business Functions and Principles for Business Leaders (1 day)
This comprehensive one-day module will provide you with an insight into the key commercial issues that are essential for business success, in addition to understanding the key financial principles used within a business setting.
Throughout a series of interactive sessions, we will provide an outline of the different types of business structures and how corporations work from an organisational point of view (including departments and roles). You will also learn how to understand the financial environment and retail banking segments, including how banks determine lending decisions and how to make business propositions more likely to succeed.
Although you may already have experience with risk management, you will learn how risk is perceived and managed in a corporate environment. Delivered via an interactive exercise, you will also learn the stages of contract negotiation, key objectives and how to plan for success.
To help prepare you for the commercial environment, we will also cover the judicial system in the UK, as well as the essential and desirable insurance products required for business. It’s likely you haven’t come across or had to use a Service-Level Agreement before, so we will discuss the different types, why they are used and how to populate and monitor them. And finally, throughout the day we will be continuously working on your personal brand whilst facilitating a session on possible interview questions and preparing your CV for an executive role.
Strategy Essentials for Business Leaders (1 day)
You may already be familiar with aspects of strategy, but possibly not within a commercial setting. This module will give you the knowledge required related to building strategic options in a commercial environment, as well as providing an insight into the key strategic decisions that have a long-term or material impact on a company.
Firstly, we will cover what a strategy is and what it is not, why we need one and what one looks like. We will also cover the different levels of decision making and where you can identify traits of an appropriate business strategy and where it gets misinterpreted.
Throughout interactive sessions, we will discuss how to build clarity, simplicity, and memorable methods in the business. As well as understanding the blueprint, we will discuss strategic intent.
Regarding strategic options, we will look at controllable and uncontrollable options, which tools to use and when, plus how to be resourceful and how to identify existing approaches. We will also look at how to establish a business vision statement and mission for 5 years.
And finally, we will take a look at your leadership personality via a Myers Briggs Type Indicator and learn how to understand authentic leadership and drivers for strategy.
Marketing Principles for Business Leaders (1 day)
In this module, we will provide a whistle-stop approach to marketing in business, which applies theory to potential real-life scenarios.
We will begin the session with an introduction to how marketing orientation works plus market research covering the benefits and drawbacks. We will then provide you with the tools to understand how to segment your market and how to create pen portraits and set your target market.
Following on from previous personal branding exercises, we will also provide a session on understanding your why, your positioning, your brand values, and your narrative.
You will learn the importance of understanding consumer behaviour and how it informs marketing including the use of planning models and marketing strategy and objectives. As well as having an introduction to pricing including the most common pricing strategies and using pricing as a sales tool.
And lastly, we will cover the positives and negatives of marketing channels, plus understand how to define your marketing strategy in your business and apply it.
Financial Essentials for Business Leaders (1 day)
Whilst you may not necessarily be striving for a specific financial role in your new career, we do believe it is beneficial for you to understand the financial aspects of an Executive’s duties. In this module we will also provide an insight into how decisions made can affect an organisation’s financial performance.
To begin with, you will learn the different types of business structures, including the financial reporting on each business type and tax payable.
You will then learn what financial statements consist of and what is required in business (including profit and loss accounts, cash flows and balance sheets). Following this, it is important to know how to interpret that information, so we will cover how to read a set of accounts, not just focusing on the numbers.
And finally, we will look at ratio analysis, by learning how a number of results can give an overview of a business’s performance.
Assessment
As part of the programme, you will work towards receiving a TQUK Level 4 Award in Business Essentials for Business Leaders (RQF) which is regulated by Ofqual. As part of the assessment process, we will be the key point of contact for gaining the Level 4 accreditation providing support, assignment marking, feedback and coaching.
You will be inducted onto the assessment on the first day of the cohort and continue working on your written questions post-cohort, via an online assessment portal. Tutor support will be available throughout and feedback will be provided following unit submissions. We anticipate the assessment should take no longer than 9 months to complete.
A full induction process including qualification guidance documents and full access to the assessment workbook and online assessment platform will be provided so you can begin working on the assessment straight away whilst you are attending the four-day programme, where tutors will be available to discuss any questions that you may have. Following this, you will have access to the platform 24/7, so you can continue to work through the assessment at your leisure.
